Since digital technologies support people to made digital mapping, the development of a computer based system for storage and to organised spatial information in every purposes were fastly developed as well. Those kind of technology called Geographic Information System (GIS).
The GIS is a digital system that used for captures, stores, analyzes, manages, and presents spatial information. GIS technology were integrated between basis data operational and analysed with visualisation of digital map. Information system based on mapping and geographic is a tools to manage all spatial information in the surface and in the below earth surfaces. Those kind of abilites that made a GIS more powerful than other information technologies and more applied in the real world.
GIS technology can be used for scientific investigations, resource management, asset management, archaeology, environmental impact assessment, urban planning, cartography, criminology, geographic history, marketing, logistics, prospectivity mapping, and other purposes. For example, GIS might allow emergency planners to easily calculate emergency response times (i.e. logistics) in the event of a natural disaster, GIS might be used to find wetlands that need protection from pollution, or GIS can be used by a company to site a new business location to take advantage of a previously under-served market.
Scope of GIS can be applied to a variety of interests in multi-dimensional utilization. GIS integrates digital map system with digital data together so it is easy to read, informed, and as one tool to determine the consideration / decision.
Furthermore, based on the information system we can draw information from the available maps in the GIS applications, or vice versa, obtain information about a specific area maps which will appear, if we use certain information as search criteria.
